Pan-tilt camera tracking

2D tracking of walking wood ants (Formica rufa)

The described experiments were conducted at the Collett lab, University of Sussex, by Paul Graham. Wood ants were trained to forage in a laboratory setup containing a prominent landmark. Their runs to the food side were tracked using Trackit 2D equipped with a SONY EVI-D30 PTZ camera. Data of two individuals are shown (left and right). Training runs in presence of the landmark are shown in black, test runs with the landmark removed are shown in red. Image courtesy of Paul Graham. The data are published in Graham P, Fauria K and Collett TS (2003) The influence of beacon-aiming on the routes of wood ants.  J. Exp. Biol. 206, 535-541.
